Medical Center of Aurora chief Richard Hammett has been named named president and CEO of , HealthONE announced Tuesday.

Hammett will take the helm of the Swedish on Aug. 3. The 368-bed acute care hospital in Englewood has more 2,000 employees and sees more than 200,000 patients annually. It is HealthONE’s only Level 1 Trauma Center and Trauma Research Program.

Hammett’s appointment comes as Swedish nears the completion of a . The project, which includes a 65,000-square-foot addition, a new neurocritical care unit and new equipment and beds, is expected to be completed next year.

“This new position for Richard is a reflection of the results he has achieved at (Medical Center of Aurora) since arriving in 2012, leading the hospital to significant quality achievements and expansion of services and facilities,” HealthONE CEO Sylvia Young said in a statement.

Under Hammett’s watch, HealthONE’s expanded its emergency, cardiovascular and behavioral health services and was named a top performer for key quality measures by The Joint Commission, a health-care accreditation organization.

Prior joining Medical Center of Aurora, Hammett was the chief operating officer and interim CEO of St. David’s Medical Center in Austin, Texas.
