Interview with Chris Klaschik, owner
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I have been doing this for 27 years. I started shortly after college. I was a graphic designer and I found that I had more freedom in the sign industry as far as the design end of it. Fell in love with designing and installing on all kinds of vehicles, which I love doing the most. I started wrapping before it became popular. We used to wrap with 15-foot two-mil 3M material and layer on layer for the color effect. It took us about a week to do a full van; now it takes us four to five hours and it’s all one piece.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: Quality and attention to detail. I have a proprietary way of prepping vehicles, which normally takes longer than the rest of it. Also, since I have been doing this for so long, I feel I have a great eye for designing everything from vehicles to banners to signs. My feeling is, yeah, it would look cool to have all these colors and cool graphics on your vehicle, but if your logo is missed in all of it, what’s the point?
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: The people and the challenges they bring to us. Nothing is impossible.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: Getting the word out to the general public that wraps and vehicle graphics are the best advertising you can do for your business. It reaches more people and has more of a lasting effect on others once they see it … if, of course, it’s designed the right way.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: When customers walk in and see our shop, its set up more as a design studio than a sign shop. Yes, we have the printers, plotters, laminators and vinyl, but it has that studio feel. That’s what we do first before anything else. We take the time to listen to our customers and ask all the right questions to understand what their company does so we can express that to the public on their vehicles. It’s advertising!
