A 16-year-old boy accused of during a Denver vehicle theft earlier this month turned himself in to police on Wednesday night.

Israel “Izzy” Alvarado has been charged with first-degree murder in the July 3 slaying of 41-year-old William Romo-Rodriguez.

Denver police say Alvarado surrendered to Sheridan authorities.

Police say Romo-Rodriguez was killed while trying to stop the teen from stealing an SUV from near a mechanic shop.

The fatal encounter happened about 3:45 a.m. on July 3 in front of El Mecanico in the 3100 block of West Alameda Avenue.

Romo-Rodriguez was ejected from his vehicle while trying to stop Alvarado from stealing it, according to police. Prosecutors say court records in the case have been sealed.
