ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — The Aspen Fire Department has recovered a body from the Roaring Fork River downstream from the Devil’s Punchbowl area up Independence Pass.
The Aspen Times reports (http://bit.ly/1LpePUO ) that Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office got a report from a hiker Thursday morning of a possible deceased person in the river.
An Aspen Fire Department swift-water rescue team responded and recovered a body.
Deputy Tiffani Delaney says the river is still very high after heavy rains earlier this season, making a rescue much slower.
The coroner’s office will conduct an autopsy. No more information about the victim was available.
