The Denver Post Cheyenne Frontier Days Train, a much-anticipated rite of summer, makes its 24th journey north for a taste of the Old West on Saturday.

More than 500 passengers will have a full day of activities, including the colorful Frontier Days parade.

This year’s train of vintage cars will be pulled by the Union Pacific Railroad’s sleek 1950s era E-9 diesel streamliner.

The first Post train to Frontier Days ran from 1908 to 1970
. This year’s trip is a continuation of a promise Dean Singleton, the paper’s chairman, made to rodeo organizers after the first outing of the renewed trek, part of the newspaper’s 100th anniversary in 1992: “You give me a rodeo, I’ll give you a train.”

Proceeds from the CFD Train, supported by corporate sponsors MDC/Richmond American Foundation and Anadarko Petroleum Corp., benefit the Denver Post Community Foundation, which assists area nonprofits.
