Donald Trump’s surge to 24/7 news coverage is the latest proof of how fickle politics can be. Despite a number of credible Republican candidates having announced their pursuit of the presidential nomination, coverage of the race has been dominated for a month by a billionaire buffoon.

But this too shall pass. You can’t trash Mexican immigrants as mostly criminal and defame American POWs as lacking in heroism without voters realizing you aren’t running for president so much as auditioning for a circus act.

Heaven knows what Trump’s next brainstorm will be. There’s a certain fascination in learning what goes on in the mind of a man who has filed for corporate bankruptcy four times and once tried to use a New Jersey state agency to condemn the property of an elderly woman to make way for a limousine parking lot.

Vera Coking won her fight with Trump, by the way, just as sanity will prevail against him today.
