Interview with Jose Ramos, owner
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I tried many things in life to find what I could do best, from working retail to construction. The whole time, I was cutting hair in my backyard for fun and some extra spending money. Little did I know, I wasted years of my life with other jobs and colleges, while ignoring what I was to do for my career: be a barber.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: I stay as true to the art of being a barber as best I can. That includes being able to cut any type of hair and any type of style. The most important thing to me is always finishing a haircut off with a straight razor like every barber used to do, because it’s quickly dying off. The other thing is our atmosphere at the shop — it’s very relaxed, and if clients feel like it, they can use my full gym in the back or play a game of pool while waiting.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: I like that I’m my own boss. And although I’ll never be rich, I also like I can take care of my wife, Jessica, my son, Jotham, and baby son, Jonah, on the way. They are my motivation to do the best haircuts I can and keep my clients coming back.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: My biggest challenge is finding barbers. At some point, I need to expand my shop, being so close to Buckley Air Force base, and as of now I can’t do that.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: Not really sure what would surprise everyone. But if someone’s looking for a real, professional, barber. I encourage them to set up a time with me, and I would love to learn what surprised them about me and my shop.
