An unsuccessful candidate for Denver City Council won’t face a court case over an alleged violation of local campaign-finance rules.

The Denver city attorney’s office has declined to initiate court proceedings against Sean Bradley. He lost a June 2 runoff election for the far-northeast District 11 seat to Stacie Gilmore, who was .

Earlier this month, a hearing officer who considered a campaign-finance complaint filed by Gilmore’s campaign manager, Magen Elenz, among several alleged. It concerned the Bradley campaign’s distribution of a brochure lacking a required printed disclosure that the campaign paid for it May 27, about three weeks after Elenz filed her complaint.

An assistant city attorney notified Bradley’s attorney and others about its decision in a letter last week.

“After a full review of the decision and applying the criminal burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt, the Prosecution and Code Enforcement Section (PACE) of the City Attorney’s office has elected to not pursue criminal charges against Mr. Bradley in this matter,” wrote Chad Sublet, the section’s director.

If the issue proceeded to court, a finding that a finance violation occurred could have jeopardized Bradley’s qualification as a candidate for the initial May 5 election, which included several other candidates. But the city attorney’s decision has ended the case.
