Lawyers representing former students of Corinthian Colleges Inc. are requesting permission to file a $2.5 billion claim against the defunct for-profit college operator.
The claim would represent the fees, expenses and lost wages of about 500,000 students who attended one of the Everest, Heald or WyoTech campuses between 2000 and 2015. Individual student losses range between $10,000 and $100,000, lawyers for the committee representing students said in court documents filed Wednesday.
Corinthian operated three Everest College campuses in Aurora, Thornton and Colorado Springs.
Students have alleged they were misled by Corinthian Colleges and deceived into paying for a worthless education. Corinthian has consistently denied any allegations of wrongdoing and stood by the education it provided.
Allowing former students to file one joint claim would deal with concerns some former students didn’t receive proper information about their right to file a claim in the bankruptcy case, lawyers said.
