President Barack Obama answers questions about the Iran nuclear deal during a news conference in the East Room of the White House in Washington on July 15. (Pablo Martinez Monsivais, The Associated Press)
Letap be honest about one thing when it comes to the proposed nuclear deal with Iran: Most of the Republicans in Congress could not care less whether it is a good or bad deal. All they care about is pulling down a president who happens to be a Democrat. The GOP does not want to hand any sort of “win” to President Obama. If this exact same deal had come from a Republican president, they would all be saying how great it is.
Congress has 60 days to review and consider the deal. Yet even before it had been public for a day, the GOP was already denouncing it, without actually taking any time to read it fully, let alone seriously consider its strengths or weaknesses.

This letter was published in the July 24 edition.President Obama assures us that the nuclear agreement he struck with Iran cuts off every avenue they have for developing a nuclear weapon within the next 10 to 15 years. But given Obama’s less than stellar track record for assurances, I think itap fair to say that talk is especially cheap when it comes from this particular president. So I say how about Obama putting something behind it this time by doing what he does best? I propose that Obama issue an executive order ending his lifelong Secret Service protection on the very day that Iran develops nuclear weapons before the prescribed time is up.

This letter was published in the July 24 edition.Four Americans are being held captive in Iran. Why didn’t President Obama make freeing them as part of the Iran deal? It was such a logical and humanitarian bargaining issue. His desire to make a political gain and leave a legacy trumped bringing home our citizens. Shameful.
