Colorado catcher Michael McKenry, who regularly catches Jorge De La Rosa, sat out Wednesday with a right knee injury. He has been unavailable this week, week but will be cleared to play Friday, Weiss said.
“Mack is a little nicked up right now,” Weiss said.
McKenry underwent season-ending LEFT knee surgery in 2013 when he played for the Pirates.
“He’s been dealing with some fluid in there,” Weiss said Wednesday of McKenry’s injured right knee. “But he’s gotten much better in the last 48 hours.”
McKenry has become Colorado’s catcher of choice when De La Rosa pitches. But starter Nick Hundley handled that duty in a Wednesday loss to the Rangers.
With McKenry out, Wilin Rosario become the Rockies backup catcher.
“He’ll still catch a bullpen here and there,” Weiss said of Rosario. “He’s comfortable back there.”
