All this weekend Reverb staff is writing live from UMS 2015. and check back on heyreverb.com to find out where to be and what’s going on.
It’s the fifth and last year for the Centennial Day Party at the yellow house on First and Acoma, and all early indications are that the Meese brothers are doing it right. You can’t even move in this back yard and no one seems to care. People do their best to move toward friends in the crowd with polite “excuse me”s, but we’re not going anywhere.
Not that it matters, because Blue Rider, a regular, psychy favorite that Nate Meese called “the most underrated band in Denver,” is playing its burning garage-rock. They have Thee Oh Sees trademark yips down, along with the effortlessly shredding guitar. We wish we could hear it more, but it’s a free back yard party, so we can’t really complain.
It’s sad that this day party has to go at all, but if we only have this raw, hirsute psychedelia to send us off, it would be a happy ending.
