STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Buddhist monks from a monastery in southeast India are making their way back to Steamboat Springs for the first time since their initial visit in 2010.
The Steamboat Pilot & Today reports (http://bit.ly/1InagVR) Drepung Loseling Monastery monks are making a mandala sand painting Wednesday at the city’s library, one stop in their Mystical Arts of Tibet world tour.
Community members can watch the monks make the mandala, a symbol for protection and happiness. They will also be given a chance to contribute each day of the visit, scheduled through Sunday.
Drepung Loseling Monastery monks have been touring the world demonstrating their mandala sand paintings since 1988.
