Republican politico Michael Fortney holds his son, Henry Kevin Fortney, Friday afternoon.
Nobody loved the statehouse babies like our reporter Lynn Bartels, who will soon be the spokeswoman for Secretary of State Wayne Williams. To keep that spirit alive, and to keep you apprised of the latest Capitol reproductive news, I’m declaring the first Lynn Bartels Memorial Baby Race.
Its first winner was crowned Friday when Republican politico Michael Fortney, the spokesman for State Treasurer Walker Stapleton among other clients, and his wife, Catharine, welcomed Henry Kevin Fortney to the world, weighing in at 6 pounds, 3 ounces and born a month ahead of his due date. The child was the first for the Fortneys.
“Mom and baby are doing great,” Fortney said via e-mail Monday. “Dad is confused and desperately trying to figure out how to be helpful.”
Now before the Dan factions cry foul, the state representatives — Dan Pabon, a Denver Democrat, and Dan Nordberg, a Colorado Springs Republican — missed the start time to win the first Lynn Bartels Memorial Baby Race trophy (which only happens to look like a free lunch on me; Fortney has picked Southern-style barbecue when his baby duties allow time).
Pabon’s daughter , almost two months before Lynn announced the end of her 35-year newspaper career.
On June 2, the Nordbergs had a daughter, Claire Christine.
Among elected officials, to Reps. Jonathan Singer of Longmont and Alec Garnett of Denver, who are vying to have the next Bartels baby among legislators.
In the name of Lynn, keep me posted on your due dates and wedding plans, politicos.
. which one of you guys is going to report on engagements and pregnancies?
