A 65-year-old Denver man was killed Saturday in a single-vehicle rollover crash in southern Colorado’s San Luis Valley, authorities say.

The crash happened on U.S. 285 about 6 a.m. Saturday near the town of Saguache in Saguache County, the Colorado State Patrol said.

“A gold Buick Rendevous driven by Ronald Juzenas, 66, of Denver, was traveling southbound on (U.S. 285) when the vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a delineator post,” the State Patrol said in a news release.

Investigators say the Buick came back onto the roadway when Juzenas overcorrected and went back off the left side of the roadway again.

“The vehicle rolled three times and came to rest on its wheels facing east,” according to the release.

William Meadows, a passenger in the car who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle. Meadows was flown to a Pueblo hospital by Flight for Life and later pronounced dead.

Juzenas, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken to Rio Grande Hospital in Del Norte by ambulance and later transported to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Lakewood by air with serious injuries.

“Alcohol and drugs are not suspected in the crash,” the release said. “It is suspected that Juzenas fell asleep at the wheel.”
