KERMIT THE FROG, GONZO THE GREAT
“Dating moi is like flying close to the sun,” Miss Piggy told a press conference today regarding her breakup with Kermit the Frog. Honestly, the excitement of critics shouting questions at puppets onstage suggested “The Muppets” on ABC has a good shot this fall.
Kermit is now dating Denise, a lovely pig who works in marketing for ABC, said executive producer Bill Prady.
“Have you had work done?” one reporter asked Miss Piggy. (She simply decided not to age, the celebrated pig answered.)
Kermit brought the most sage observation to the event: “Like most Hollywood stars, we are wholly owned subsidiaries of some big company.”
And a warning: The show within the show, a mockumentary “Up Late w Miss Piggy,” goes behind scenes of celebrity, at home with the stars, behind the Piggy mask. This is not a kids’ show.
Somewhere, a distraught Alf rails at the showbiz gods. (Full disclosure: I participated in a similar press conference built around Alf umpteen seasons ago. It did not go well, as critics balked at interviewing a puppet.)
