COLORADO SPRINGS — Attention incline hikers: Your favorite sufferfest will be closed Saturday morning and much of Sunday to make way for participants in the Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon, Colorado Springs officials say.

On Saturday, the incline will be off-limits until about 11 a.m. On Sunday, the trail will be closed until about 2 p.m.

Beyond the mandatory closures, the city is urging people to avoid the trail altogether this weekend, citing congestion and road closures related to the annual running races on Barr Trail. Hundreds of competitors and spectators are expected to descend upon the area for this weekend’s contest, which marks the 60th running of the Marathon.

The incline will resume normal hours of operation — from dawn to dusk — on Monday.
