Interview with Stefanie Parris, owner
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I became certified for Whole Food Nutritional Counseling in 2007, and had previously worked in the health food industry since 2003. After losing my vision five years ago, I had to rethink my career path, but I was presented with the opportunity to follow my true passion for combining health, nutrition and baking delicious foods.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: I specialize in fresh-baked granola, oatmeal bars and cookies. I use quality, all-natural ingredients. I sell my products every Sunday at Boulter’s 5280 Urban Market, and I am the only vendor who sells baked goods at the market, which runs through the end of September.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: I like experimenting with new recipes and coming up with new ideas to nurture your body and indulge your soul through nutritious and tasty treats. I also like reinventing classic recipes to make them healthier and more nutritious.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: The biggest challenge is getting people to understand that baked goods can be both healthy and delicious. A lot of people automatically think baked goods are bad for you. Also, anticipating what people are going to buy — the cravings of customers at the market from week to week.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: People might be surprised to learn that I am blind, and that I prepare, bake and package everything myself.
