Michael Jordan’s lawyers say the grocery chain owes star $10 million for $2 coupon published in Sports Illustrated. (Chuck Burton, Associated Press file)
Re: “Michael Jordan lawyer: Star’s name worth $480 million to Nike,” Aug. 13 business story.
Yet another flagrant example of the ridiculous state of affairs of professional sports: the absurd compensation given many professional athletes and the god-like status society has imparted on them. Why is Michael Jordan’s “identity” worth nearly half a billion dollars? (And why does he want more?) Why is Dominick’s finer Foods trying to sell beef by associating with a basketball player ?
The court should award Jordan a buck and we should put sports back into a proper perspective.
