Five people were arrested in LoDo Thursday night in connection with a verbal dispute on the 16th Street Mall which turned violent.
The incident started to unfold at about 9:30 p.m. near the corner of 16th and Curtis Street in front of the Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery, said Sgt. Brian Conover of the Denver Police Department.
A verbal dispute among several people moved down the mall one block to the corner of 16th and Arapahoe Street where a fight broke out near the entrance and patio of Tokyo Joe’s restaurant.
When the manager of the Tokyo Joe’s came outside and tried to break up the fight, he was slashed or cut with a sharp instrument, possibly a knife. He left the area after suffering the injury and police did not immediately catch up with him, Conover said.
Another person suffered serious facial injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
The violence subsided and a group of suspected assailants moved further down the mall. Police took two adults and three juveniles into custody on Wazee Street between 16th and 17th streets.
Further details on the person who suffered the face injury were not immediately available.
Police were investigating the incident at several spots on the mall, which were cordoned off with crime scene tape.
