The man who led Colorado’s efforts to attract public-private partnerships to build, finance and oversee roads in the Denver-metro area is leaving his post.

Michael Cheroutes is leaving the High Performance Transportation Enterprise — an arm of the Colorado Department of Transportation — to become director of the Colorado Center for Infrastructure Investment. As the head and founder of the group, Cheroutes will serve as a public-private partnership consultant in Colorado as well as nationally and internationally.

As director of the transportation enterprise, Cheroutes pushed to get private firms to invest in local roads and to work with CDOT to manage them. The state group also set toll rates for I-25 and U.S. 36 between Boulder and Denver.

Cheroutes will stay on his job with the state until October.
