An inmate in an Arapahoe County diversion program for the mentally ill was found dead over the weekend.
It is the first death reported by the Arapahoe Diverts Mentally Ill to Treatment (ADMIT) program, according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.
“The man’s body was found in his room at the ADMIT facility after he failed to show for dinner with a relative,” the sheriff’s office said in a media release.
The 29-year-old inmate was serving a jail sentence for identity theft and was referred to the ADMIT program about three months ago.
The cause and manner of his death is being investigated by the Adams County Coroner’s Office. Initially it does not appear to be suspicious, the sheriff’s office said.
The voluntary program accepts inmates with mental illness who are serving non-violent convictions and who meet established standards for treatment.
The body was found at 10:45 p.m. Sunday. The man’s name was not released.
