Getting your player ready...

Donald Trump reiterated his desire last weekend , conceding that “we have to keep the families together, but they have to go.”

Lest you fear his policy would be draconian and disruptive, however, Trump assured the audience of NBC’s “Meet the Press” that “the good people can come back.”

The “good people” will be very glad to hear it. How many of them are there among the 11 million who might qualify for deportation? Perhaps Trump will enlighten us in the coming weeks. But probably not. Putting a figure to it would undermine his demagogery.

First, it might force him to admit that the number of rapists and other criminals he’s highlighted is a quite small proportion of the total.

Second, it might reveal what a costly farce the process would likely be, deporting millions and then letting most of them back in on an expedited basis.
