A domestic disturbance at a Loveland home escalated into a SWAT team response, officials said Monday.

Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 200 block of Blue Spruce Lane on Saturday night to investigate a domestic disturbance, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

Deputies discovered a woman who had been assaulted inside the residence. She was taken to a local hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries, the release said.

Police used loudspeakers to inform Kenneth Shawcroft, 42, of his arrest and instructions to leave the residence, but Shawcroft did not comply, the release said.

“Based on Shawcroft’s extensive criminal history and refusal to obey commands to surrender, the Larimer County Regional SWAT team was called to the scene,” the release said.

The SWAT standoff lasted for hours, the release said.

Eventually, SWAT deployed chemicals into the residence, and Shawcroft exited a few minutes later, police said.

Shawcroft was taken into custody around 1 a.m. and booked into the Larimer County Jail for allegations of second degree assault and domestic violence enhancement.

Bond had not been set as of Monday morning.
