The National Weather Service in Grand Junction issued a red flag warning for Moffat and Rio Blanco counties into Monday night.
The warning stems from “gusty winds, low humidity and dry fuels,” according to a news release from the Northwest Colorado Interagency Fire.
The warning is in place from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Winds are expected to reach 35 miles per hour and could create the potential for rapid fire growth upon ignition, the release said.
“Please refrain from using fire outdoors this afternoon and evening,” the release said.

Thirteen of the 20 were contained, firefighters said in a media release.
Among fires reported Sunday were: The Thornburg fire and the Indian Rock fire. The two fires are about three miles apart, six miles northwest of Maybell, in Moffat County.
