ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Alaska State Troopers have called off the search for a 34-year-old man reported missing after he walked away from a campsite on Kenai Lake.

The Alaska Dispatch News reports (http://bit.ly/1DZh7Jr ) that Daniel Compeau, of Loveland, Colo., was last seen Saturday morning camping with friends off the shore of Kenai Lake in an area that is not part of an organized campground.

Alaska State Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters says Moose Pass Fire Department and U.S. Forestry helped troopers search the campsite and lake but did not find the man. She says none of the man’s gear was missing but a trail of clothing was found between the tent and lake.

The active search was canceled Sunday evening.
