A motorcycle driver who allegedly struck a police officer with his bike has been charged with menacing and assault.

Francisco Garcia-Osornio, 24, is accused of deliberately accelerating a motorcycle and steering toward a Denver police officer, knocking the officer to the ground, according to the Denver District Attorney’s Office.

The incident happened about 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the Federal Boulevard and West 6th Avenue interchange, which is under construction, prosecutors said.

“Garcia-Osornio was riding his motorcycle with four other riders on a closed ramp …when he saw a Denver police officer and accelerated directly toward him, hitting him and knocking the officer to the ground,” according to a media release.

He was arrested a short time later after losing control of the motorcycle and hitting a curb, the DA’s office said.

Garcia-Osornio, who is free on a $50,000 bond, is scheduled to appear Sept. 3 in a Denver court.
