Re: “Excuses for baker not wanting to bake cake for same-sex couple,” Aug. 20 letter to the editor.

The writer comparing the baking of a wedding cake for a gay couple with a dentist or heart surgeon refusing service to someone based on their sexual leanings is entirely missing the point, which I am sure many others have also.

Unlike dentistry, medicine or most other public businesses, the wedding industry is, by its very nature, a celebratory industry. Believers understand that sin runs rampant in all of human nature, everyone included, but they also know that God says his followers are not only not to refrain from certain behaviors, but not to approve, applaud or encourage those that do engage in them (Romans 1:32). Therefore, believers who work and serve in the wedding industry are going to be faced with some very difficult decisions.

This is the new (but very old) world we now live in.
