Traffic flowed on C-470 during rush hour Wednesday night, Jan. 9, 2013. (Karl Gehring, The Denver Post)
Re: “C-470 racket irking residents,” Aug. 27 news story.
I have been a resident of the Acres Green neighborhood for 40-plus years and remember when C-470 was built and opened to traffic. At that time there was hardly any noticeable noise coming from this highway. The noise increased dramatically when the speed limit was raised to 65 mph. I’m not an engineer, but I suspect it has something to do with airflow passing over the moving cars. Yes, traffic volume has also increased, but building a wall — as some residents are demanding — is not going to solve the problem. It will, however, cost taxpayers money to build an unsightly wall. How about reducing the speed back to 55 mph, which will reduce the noise and perhaps, even more importantly, reduce the number of accidents on this heavily traveled road?
