Kyle Kendrick’s return to the Rockies on Tuesday marked the beginning of a six-man pitching rotation, according to manager Walt Weiss.

“We’ll probably roll with six moving forward,” he said.

Kendrick, who started the second game of a doubleheader Tuesday against Arizona, will slot in like normal and five others will fall in behind him, starting with Gray.

But Gray, who made his big-league debut last month, remains on .

If he reaches that mark — somewhere in the 30-35 inning range — the Rockies may shut down Gray, then slide back to a five-man cycle. Gray is at 21 innings so far through five games. But pitching every sixth day would give him more time in the season to compete, without altering his limits.

In his previous outing, , allowing three runs on seven hits, with six strikeouts and two walks.
