
The man who faces a litany of charges, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Wednesday.
Daniel C. Williams, 50, could be charged with a felony count of illegal discharge of a weapon. Five possible misdemeanor charges include unlawful taking of a black bear, reckless endangerment and shooting across a public roadway.
The district attorney will decide which charges to file.
Williams woke up Tuesday when a mother bear and two cubs were in his trash outside his home in the 27,000 block of Lupine Drive, the sheriff’s office reported. He first fired two rubber buckshot rounds. Then, his dog ran out and he used a live round that killed one cub an wounded the other. That cub was later euthanized by wildlife officials.
The live round also hit a house nearby.
