Syrian families wait to cross the Macedonianborder on Sept. 2 in Idomeni Greece. Since the beginning of 2015 the number of migrants using the so-called ‘Balkans route’ has exploded with migrants arriving in Greece from Turkey and then traveling on through Macedonia and Serbia before entering the EU via Hungary. The number of people leaving their homes in war torn countries such as Syria, marks the largest migration of people since World War II. (Dan Kitwood, Getty Images Europe)
After watching for weeks as refugees flood to Europe to escape the civil war in Syria, I have a simple question. Why doesn’t the United Nations, including the United States, intervene, remove Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and install an interim regime until legitimate elections install a new government? We have an international crisis that justifies intervention. The cause of the immigration crisis is good people escaping an impossible situation. Itap time for a coalition to act.
