Re: “Teen undergoes first deep brain stimulation at Children’s Hospital Colorado,” Aug. 30 news story.
A huge thanks to The Post for the exceptional and timely article on deep brain stimulation (DBS) for dystonia. September is Dystonia Awareness Month. Although the article refers to 500,000 afflicted in North America, the public would be surprised at how many are here in Colorado, including me and my twin sister. Currently, there are two support groups in the Denver metro area where several members have had great success with DBS for their specific type of dystonia. Dystonia comes in many forms and is life-changing for those afflicted. Witnessing the medical advancements in the treatment of dystonia, such as DBS, gives hope to those unable to get relief from conventional treatments.
