Attorney General Cynthia Coffman. (Denver Post file )
Re: “Colorado attorney general to join in suit on Obama’s Clean Power Plan,” Aug. 30 news story.
How disappointing that Colorado Attorney General Cynthia Coffman has such limited vision when it comes to what is good for Colorado. She cites the Clean Power Plan’s potential to cost jobs, mostly in coal mining, but gives no weight to the jobs to be gained by expansion of our clean energy sources. She complains of an impact on “the rights of our state government,” without acknowledgment of the fact that air pollution and climate change are no respecters of state boundaries.
This is a time when all of the states need to do their part to reduce carbon emissions, yet Coffman wants to block Colorado from doing its share. Colorado is known for initiatives designed to protect our environment and to develop our renewable energy resources. By focusing on protecting coal mines and the right to pollute, Coffman is dragging us backwards. She does not speak for the values and the economic future of Colorado.
