Commuter trains along the have important testing Friday and Saturday — they will be going 45 mph.
This will be a key indicator that all warning signs, gate arms and other mechanisms at the commuter-rail crossings are working when the East Line (also called the A Line) is scheduled to open for passenger service in the spring, say Regional Transportation District officials.
“Testing at this speed is an important milestone for the project and gets us one step closer to opening the A Line this spring,” said RTD FasTracks project director Greg Straight.
The East Rail Line will connect downtown Denver with DIA.
Saturday’s testing will be from the Airport Boulevard and 40th Avenue station to East 40th Avenue and York Street, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
There will be flaggers at each intersection to ensure the safe crossing of pedestrians. If this phase of the testing is successful, trains will continue to travel along the A Line at high speeds for the remainder of the testing program and when it opens to the public.
