Re: “What has happened to respect?,” Sept. 7 letter to the editor.
Letter-writer M. Elizabeth asks: “Why are people so rude and disrespectful?”
For some, this isn’t a new fad. It has been around for decades. Those who remember black and white drinking fountains and restrooms, and agreed with that concept, have taught their children the same. Those who have taught their children not to trust cops or the law, or whites in general, have planted that intolerant seed. We see some of our political leaders, and those who are running to be our leaders, talk of rounding up illegal immigrants and throwing them out of the country or tracking them like a UPS package. We see children standing side by side with their intolerant parents at protests for one hateful reason or another.
Generations learn from the one before, and as the Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young song goes, “Teach your children well.”
What are we teaching our children today for tomorrow?
