
The Denver City Council on Monday approved a controversial Chick-fil-A lease at the airport and changes to the affordable housing preservation ordinance.
Voting 9-1, the council adopted a resolution approving a concession agreement with Concessions International and Delarosa Restaurant Concepts to operate the fast-food chain in Denver International Airport’s Concourse B.
In committee, some members , including an executive’s comments opposing same-sex marriage on religious grounds, before approving the lease.
Councilwoman Debbie Ortega voted no, citing the chain’s closure on Sundays, when DIA is busy. Councilman Rafael Espinoza abstained.
In another vote, the council approved, 11-0, changes . The changes include requiring landlords to give the city a year’s notice when affordability covenants are due to expire or a sale is planned, and to give the city the right of first refusal to purchase covered properties.
