Defending Class 5A state champion Broomfield is up to No. 5 in the latest boys soccer rankings issued by USA Today/NSCAA.

The national newspaper and National Soccer Coaches Associtaion of America have St. Benedict’s Prep of Newark, N.J., as No. 1.

Broomfield currently is 4-0, having outscored its opposition by a combined 13-1. Broomfield will be at Mountain Range on Thursday.

In the category of also receiving votes, Boulder (4-0) is the other Colorado team that appears.

Broomfield will host Boulder on Oct. 6 at Elizabeth Kennedy Stadium in the Front Range League.
