Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis makes a statement to the media at the front door of the Rowan County Judicial Center in Morehead, Ky., Sept. 14. Davis announced that her office will issue marriage licenses under order of a federal judge, but they will not have her name or office listed. (Timothy D. Easley, The Associated Press)

The Bible exhorts Christians to render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s. I would respect Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk, if she were to resign her post. That would really be standing up for her principles. Instead, as we say in the secular world, she wants to have her cake and eat it, too.
