Southern Colorado authorities seized 37 dogs from a 58-year-old woman’s home Tuesday in a suspected animal cruelty case.

Demaris “Dee” Chess, of Penrose, faces 37 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty, the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office says.

“The dogs were transported to two local animal shelters where they will be evaluated and receive additional medical care as needed,” the release said.
