The Aurora Police Department is searching for suspects involved in a Craigslist fraud.

From July through August, a man who identified himself as Alex Ferguson to his victims advertised on Craigslist as a custom painter in Colorado, according to an Aurora Police Department Facebook post.

The suspect offered low cost interior and exterior painting, police said.

The suspect would frequently collect cash or checks, immediately cash the check at the victims’ financial institutions and never return to do the work, police said.

The banks are unable to provide any information on these transactions, police said.

The suspect has used several phone numbers — two of them ending in 9587 and 7686 — which are now disconnected.

During job site visits, the suspect is usually accompanied by a woman and a small child. They drive a blue mini-van, police said.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact Aurora Police Detective D. Van Nostrand of the economic crimes unit at 303-739-6079 or call Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
