A woman was driving in a car on West Colfax Avenue near Jay Street late Monday night when she was apparently shot by someone trying to quell an argument at a Lakewood motel, police say.

The woman pulled her car over and was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, said Steve Davis, Lakewood police spokesman.

“The strongest indication of what happened was that a person fired a shot to break up what was going on,” Davis said.

Police are still investigating the 10:30 p.m. incident. No arrests have been made.

A large group of people were involved in some type of confrontation, just before a man pulled out a gun and started firing, Davis said.

“Ten to 20 shots were fired very rapidly,” he said.

It appears the female driver, whose identity has not been released, was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time and happened to be struck by a bullet, Davis said.
