A truck fire on eastbound Interstate 70 sparked the closure of a portion of the roadway near the Eisenhower Tunnel on Thursday afternoon.

No one was injured after a welding truck caught on fire around 1:43 p.m. at mile marker 211, said Colorado State Patrol Trooper Josh Lewis.

Eastbound I-70 is closed at the Eisenhower Tunnel with no estimation of reopening, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Lewis said the fire was not started by a crash and did not know how it began.

Because the truck is carrying welding equipment, Lewis said that a Hazmat team was made aware of the accident.

This is a developing story that will be updated as more information becomes available.
