Denver police are warning residents that license plate thefts are rising in the city, and they are offering tips to avoid becoming a victim.
So far this year, more than 950 plates have been reported stolen, and stolen plates are typically used to commit crimes, police said.
Police said residents should park in well-lit areas, park inside a garage if possible, install anti-theft screws, which require special tools to be removed and report the theft of plates to law enforcement as soon as possible.
