Re: “Vaccines, Trump and Carson,” Sept. 28 letter to the editor.
Letter-writer Kevin Payne references Donald Trump’s and Dr. Ben Carson’s opinions about the advisability of spacing out the administration of vaccines.
The current vaccine schedules crafted by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices and the American Academy of Pediatrics are designed to provide maximum protection for the child. Unfortunately, when vaccines are delayed in any way, the child is more susceptible to the infectious diseases addressed by these same vaccines. Thatap because it takes time and sometimes several doses to give the child the time to develop immunity after the vaccines are administered.
Experts in the field urge following the established vaccination schedule in order to better protect the child, the family and all those who come in contact with the child from infectious diseases.
