Oregon residents will have options — lots and lots of options — for places to buy recreational marijuana come Thursday.
The Oregon Health Authority has released a of operating medical marijuana dispensaries that have received approval to begin . The list could grow. As of late Tuesday afternoon, there were 227 shops — 98 are in Portland, the state’s largest city.

With so many outlets for shoppers, it appears the debut of adult marijuana sales in Oregon might not have the same on Jan. 1, 2014, when there were about 40 shops open for the world’s first recreational sales, or in with about 20 shops.
When 21-and-over recreational shoppers make their purchases, Oregon dispensaries won’t be taking names as they do with registered medical marijuana patients, but they must record the customer’s birthdate and information about products purchased. Recreational customers can buy up to a quarter-ounce of flower, as well as seeds and immature plants, but not edibles or concentrates.
There are a number of counties and cities that have banned early recreational sales. They include Douglas and Harney counties, as well as Brownsville, Gresham, John Day, Junction City, La Grande, Reedsport, Scappoose, Sherwood, Sweet Home and Tangent.
