A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to 160 years in prison for setting an apartment fire in Thornton.
Martin Castruita Espinoza was sentenced Thursday in Adams County District Court for a March 4, 2014, arson fire at the Corona Village Condominiums, 8760 Corona St.
The fire destroyed 18 condo units in two buildings, injuring two residents and two firefighters. Several pets died in the blaze.
Espinoza was in August on 10 counts of first-degree attempted murder and 23 counts of first-degree arson, according to an Adams County District Attorney’s Office media release. He also was found guilty of 10 counts of reckless endangerment and three counts of misdemeanor assault.
Adams County District Judge Francis Wasserman sentenced Espinoza to 16 years in prison on each of the 10 counts of attempted first-degree murder, totaling 160 years. Sentences for the additional convictions will run concurrent to the attempted murder sentences.
Espinoza will not be eligible for parole for the rest of his natural life, the release said.
