A 20-year-old man was killed Wednesday night in a hit-and-run on Interstate 70 in Glenwood Canyon, the Colorado State Patrol says.
Gavin I. Brouillette, of Glenwood Springs, was pronounced dead the scene.
Authorities were alerted to the collision about 8:30 p.m., the patrol says. Brouillette was driving a 1995 Honda eastbound when he hit a guardrail and got out of his sedan.
“He was hit by a second, unknown vehicle,” said Trooper Josh Lewis. “That second vehicle left the scene. We have no idea what type of vehicle that was.”
The interstate’s eastbound lanes were closed for six hours as the patrol investigated.
The State Patrol says it wants to speak with anyone who may have been in the area of the hit-and-run at the time of crash.
The public is asked to contact the Colorado State Patrol Regional Dispatch Center in Montrose at (970) 249-4392 or the Glenwood Springs Troop Office at (970) 945-6198 and reference case #4C152264.
“It is possible the driver(s) were unaware they hit Mr. Brouillette,” the State Patrol said in a news release.
