The view to the west from Maverik Stadium’s temporary press box
LOGAN, Utah — This is the first year Utah State’s stadium has been called Maverik Stadium, after a regional convenience store chain. It formerly was named after E.L. “Dick” Romney, the Aggies’ long-time football, basketball, baseball and track and field coach and athletic director. (Mr. Romney did it all.)
It also now is a construction zone, with temporary — but perfectly adequate — press box trailers on the top of the east side and four-story cement towers in place to serve as the framework of luxury suites, loge boxes and covered club seats, plus a new press box on the west side. Construction is scheduled to be completed before the 2016 season.
The Colorado State-Utah State game is set to kick off here at 5 p.m.
