Re: “McCarthy does damage control on Benghazi comments,” Oct. 1 news brief.
Rep. Kevin McCarthy, who is hoping to replace John Boehner as speaker of the House, has admitted that the whole purpose of the eight congressional hearings on Benghazi was to tarnish Hillary Clinton, in the hopes of making her more vulnerable in the 2016 election. He made it clear that it was never about getting to the bottom of what led to the deaths of four Americans. The fact that congressional Republicans used the Benghazi tragedy for political gain is thoroughly despicable, and indicates just how dishonest they are perfectly willing to be. Rather than express remorse, McCarthy actually sounded proud of the assassination of Clinton’s character. In addition, there was no remorse for the millions of taxpayer dollars nor the time wasted on this witch hunt. Speaker? Really?
